At the age of 17, Bonita Baran, a young woman from Catanduanes, was employed as a housemaid in the Capital Region. During her stay, she suffered from harsh acts from her employers, including ironing her back, poking her eyes, hitting her with various objects, and many more. After years of harsh treatment, she returned home blind and injured, much to her family's shock and despair.
